The McCook Memorial United Methodist Church began in 1884. The first building was built in 1885 at 524 West First Street. A stone church at our present site was erected in 1905. In 1927 Mr. A. Barnett offered to build a new church in memory of his mother. It is the building we currently worship in and why we are called "Memorial" United Methodist.

Memorial United Methodist Church is a part of the United Methodist Denomination that traces it's history back to John and Charles Wesley.

Although we do not have a formal creed, United Methodism has a firm theological base that puts us in agreement with traditional Christian faith. We believe that God is the creator and sustainer of all there is, that Jesus Christ is God made flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary, died on the cross for our sins , and rose from the dead. It is through faith in Jesus, which is available to all people, that we receive new life. We also believe in the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live a holy and righteous life.
